7 for seven

7forseven_key-and-arrowLet’s face it // Mondays stink. Or at least we typically expect them to stink. That is why, every Monday, we post seven positives from the previous seven days of the week as a reminder of what we have so that the week starts out on an upswing. There is much truth in the belief that happy people attract good things, so it is important to start the week out right. Sometimes it’s the more grand, but other times, it’s the simple things.

1. Do Your Dream. My students completed a project recently, where they researched a dream they could accomplish within the next 6-12 months.  A group of girls decided they wanted to open up a bakery together, so their immediate goal was to start baking together and putting together a business plan.  They came prepared with a PowerPoint presentation that included an animated architectural tour of their bakery, a spreadsheet of their initial costs, and a sample of their cupcakes with a rating sheet to let them know how they can improve.  I gave them two tens!  Such a proud “mama!”

2. Poolside Tuesday. On Tuesday, we took our students to a water park for their end-of-the-year-7th-grade-field-trip.  The teachers sat around the poolside and played board games, while the lifeguards took over — the life!  Then, we had to go back to work for a couple of hours, but it was fun while it lasted!  I guess I could have taken off my wrist-band…

3. School is OUT.  Friday was the last day of school, and it ended on a good note.  Literally.  THIS makes it all worth while.

4. Hair Did.  Quite possible the worst selfie — EVER, which is probably a reason I don’t take them.  I’m almost never happy with pictures of myself!  I took this pic of myself per my sister’s request.  I think it’s a sign it’s been way too long since I’ve gotten a hair cut when my family wants to see pictures of a simple trim.  Ha!  Anyways, it feels ten times better; next time, I won’t wait so long!

5. Quiet.  Georgia’s sister recommended this book around Christmas time.  A student recently gave me a gift card to Barnes & Noble, so I finally picked it up, and I’m so glad that I did.  As an introvert, I’ve always struggled with accepting this label, as it was almost always associated with a negative connotation.  I grew up thinking I needed to try my best not to be so introverted.  However, I’ve recently discovered the power in being an introvert.  Not only do I accept this part of myself; I’ve grown to fully embrace it, and this book just validates my intuition that introverts are not the people who need to change; it’s the people who view introverts without the potential to become strong leaders.

6. Partaaay.  After a tough week, I was in much need of letting loose this weekend.  I’m not sure I’ve been to a house party since…  hmm… I can’t remember.  A coworker invited us over to her house to celebrate the end of the school-year, Puerto Rican style!
